seeing that we were having some issues with our current allowance system, the hubby and i decided that we needed to change things up a bit. i recalled reading about a reward system in one of my parenting magazines a while back so we decided to modify it and give it a go. we sat the kids down last nite after dinner and explained the process.
the kids earn "daddy dollars" by doing chores without reminders, having a cheerful/helpful attitude, etc. they save their dollars and turn them in for various rewards like a $5 shopping spree, ice cream, or a date nite with mom or dad. we were unprepared for how well our new system would take hold...
josie immediately went through the house cleaning up, and all three kids got ready for bed with smiles on their faces. this morning jacob was up, dressed for school (including socks and shoes), bed made, and was downstairs making his own breakfast at 6:56am -- this coming from a kid who hides under his covers when we come to wake him for school in the morning!
i must admit the cynical side of me is waiting to see how long before the new wears off, but i am liking the change thus-far!
Lesson Of The Day:
~ my kids never cease to amaze me
keep up the good work. So do you have a lot of "daddy dollars" printed off?
ReplyDeletei bought 2 packs of play money at the dollar store -- not going thru it as quickly as we were at first, but still better than printing our own! :)
ReplyDeleteI like the idea. Is it still working?
