being in a slow-motion spring cleaning mood, i pulled out my old (circa 2007) computer from the back of the girls' closet for john to and wipe clean both inside and out. i think it was a 2nd generation iMac -- you remember the one with the hard drive inside the screen so it bulges out the back, and is covered in bright blue? yeah, that one. i somehow obtained it in my final years of teaching and obviously used it for a while after jacob was born because there are still some little kid programs on it. i had no intention what-so-ever of hanging on to this thing! however, the kids saw it in the kitchen, declared, "THIS IS SO COOL!!!" and have now become obscenely attached to it. so much for sending it out for e-waste! :(
but now after a week of this gigantic thing taking up precious kitchen space i have found a few positives:
1. with all of the software updates john does to the family computer, all the old cds i had for the kids no longer work. this thing is so old and working on a completely out-of-date OS, they all work on it!
2. two computers in the house are coming in extremely handy, especially since the kids just want to play and aren't using them for anything important.... like facebook
3. it's amazing to me how much the older ones want to "help" the younger ones when something new is involved. this renewed comradery puts a smile on my face.
Lesson Of The Day
~ if you want to get rid of something, don't let the kids see it first
