yesterday as i was cleaning up the kitchen i noticed it was getting unusually quiet down in the playroom. i called out to jenna, "where are you?" to which came a reply, "bafroom!" wow! i thought to myself: my two-year-old is going to the bathroom all by herself! i am such an awesome potty-trainer!
i could not have been more wrong. she had climbed up on top of the counter, opened the medicine cabinet, and managed to open a child-proof bottle of robitussin cough and cold. she was holding the measuring cup in her slimy little hands and was squatting over a counter covered with red cough medicine. lovely... my thoughts now turned to you stinker! should i call the manufacturer and tell them they need to improve their design?
thankfully my pediactric nurse neighbor is home, so i give her a quick jingle to see if there's anything i should do. "call poison control!" seriously?!?! ugh...
since most of the liquid seemed to be on the counter and on her hands, i figured she hadn't actually gotten much of it in her system. and based on her weight and the active ingredients, she would have had to consume 1/4 of the bottle for it to be considered toxic. my only instructions were to watch her for "extreme behavior" in which case i should call back immediately. joy...
jenna exhibited no extreme behavior, and she woke up from her nap just fine. guess i just need to do a better job of keeping the medicine out of reach!
